Apr 5, 2010 at 14:36 comment added tvanfosson I would say, as long as you indicate that you're providing an answer in accordance with the FAQ, you could go ahead and answer right away. You do risk people who "don't get it" giving you a downvote, but you're interested in archiving the answer, not getting rep anyway. Explaining what you are doing might help with the erroneous downvotes though.

Just accept the one that worked better instead and then comment on your own answer that something else worked better because of x, y, and z. Someone else may one day consider the same technique, in which case the keywords in your post will likely be a better google match, thus making it easier for them to find the better solution.
