I always try to get a feel for a new community before I join in. Requiring at least a minimum amount of familiarity doesn't seem too extreme to me. Frankly I think all of the stack exchange sites would benefit from a policy like this. | |

The thinking is that there are already enough pointers to "how to ask" and "here's the FAQ" so a test would just irritate the good askers. | |

The problem is that this is the exact opposite of SE's fundamental premise that anyone can ask, without registration or any other obstacle. It's obvious that this isn't working so well, at least on SF, but I don't see the company change this for our site. | |
