What to do with an accepted answer which is plainly wrong?
According to data.stackexchange.com, it's the lowest scored [non-deleted] answer on ServerFault, period.

Maybe a better idea than altering what "Accepted Answer" means would be to have the ability to mark a question as an "Abandoned Question" which would prevent it from counting against the unanswered question pile, without having to actually accept something as an answer for the long-gone hit-and-run questioner.

@JohnGardeniers Stop assuming they use their brains. Once I started thinking of people as shaved apes, but with less intelligence, my accuracy in predicting human behavior increased dramatically.

all you've managed to achieve is to piss off those who have the answers
No, that can't be right. Obviously, he's just pissed off all the people who are in over their heads, and no solution to his problem exists. :/

@kelton52 See, this kind of shit is exactly why your question got closed and you don't have an answer you like. I actually admin hundreds of ESX hosts at the moment, and have a lot of experience with forcing a screencap from a headless machine/VM, believe it or not. But since you're hellbent on insisting you know better than me, I'm not about to help you out for free, especially when it seems to require taking attitude and shit from you. So, thank you for trying, but please go away and leave me alone from here on out. I have no interest in helping you with your issues.

What is, or should be the "right way" to edit a post for readability/formatting, and usage of the backtick character?
@SamuelEdwinWard Hence this thread.

@kelton52 Actually, I was looking for a "why" (or a "what") so I could advise you as to what possibilities there are, and which ones might be suitable for you, but after reading all the garbage you've been spewing here (which must have taken many times longer that just providing the necessary specifics in the first place), I'd also like to know why I (or anyone else) should bother helping. I mean, clearly, I'm in "over my head" (the fact that I administer hundreds of ESX which need screencapped from time to time notwithstanding), so me and my head should find someone else to help, right?

@JohnGardeniers There is that, certainly, but not knowing the answer to this does seem to have put me back a day that I would have otherwise made some progress towards those badges - now that I know, I'll wait until a slow day I know I'm not going to hit 200 to offer a bounty ,should the need to offer one arise.

No doubt. And don't worry about the occasional disagreements - as I said, nothing's perfect but me, and I'm sure you'll come around, see the light and agree with me on everything eventually. ;D

@MarkHenderson my SQL's limited by the quality of data it's run against, and no offense to the SE staff, but that data is just not reliable, or live, so I'd be more trusting of a "this is how it should work" than a "this is how the data says it works. This query."

So on board with this, except for the summary. If the comment's offensive, it should be deleted, not saved by radically altering its original meaning. And I too, prefer the... less than extremely polite comments telling lusers to RTFFM, so I wouldn't have edited or deleted that comment, had I the blue diamond powers. Though, I have it on good authority that I can be/definitely am a cold bastard, so YMMV and all.

@LieRyan. Yeah, I figured ELU.SE was probably a ---grammar Nazi--- "sensitivity-challenged," pedantic. Individual, but was more using it as an example of... differing opinions, even around here, on the "proper" use of formatting elements.
