Serverfault and Unix/Linux
They have different scopes, you might as well advocate combining French Language and German Language because they're both Language sites.

Serial close-voting?
We're not trying to make new friends. We're trying to attract people who know what they're talking about. Inviting in all the people who don't know what they're talking about is exactly what drives away knowledgable people who don't want to have to repeat themselves a million times every time a new spoollicker can't be bothered to read what has been written before. Are we helping the "victims", absolutely not - but your "victims" are selfmade.

Why is rudeness tolerated?
@Colyn1337 Making claims like "If they were, I wouldn't see comments here..." is a logical fallacy. We certainly have a few members who like to play hop-scotch with "the line", but they're regularly banned, and only allowed back because the community allows it. If you see "rudeness" please Flag it. If you think the moderators aren't dealing with the offenders appropriately please feel free to contact the SE Staff. But I'll warn you they aren't receptive to people who haven't made real efforts through the provided mechanisms.

Why are all my FreeNX questions recieved so poorly
I can't say with certainty, as I haven't downvoted them. But I can guess that your first question reads like a diary entry more than a "question". The second uses "cuz" and that's reason enough for me to stop reading and downvote a question.

"it is technically located in a home." <-- It's not described in detail in the help center but we differentiate between "home" the location and "home" the environment. The former is just a location and unimportant, the latter encompasses conduct, expectation, standards, and generally professionalism (or the lack thereof in "home environments".

Moderation Overkill on serverfault
I wasn't there. I'm still not all here. The point of the flags are to be able to bring matters to the attention of the moderators so they can correct problems. You identified a problem, freaked out, and then took steps to correct it. That doesn't generally garner warm fuzzies.

Being professional to professionals
From the Mod point of view, to be clear: We don't see everything that happens on the site. If you see someone acting "out of line" please flag it! We can't be omniscient, we need your help.

@Iain I agree with the sentiment, but had 400+ rep on SO before finding SF... So maybe just a reminder that SF is for Administrators, and not Developers.

Why are moderators/high rep users focused on narrowing the scope of SF?
@JamesRyan You're welcome to your opinion. Mark hasn't made any logical argument in this discussion which would make him a "voice of reason". If he wants he's welcome to analyze your comments, but he hasn't yet. It should be clear that I am adverse to baseless criticism, endless rants, and grammarcide. I don't take anything on board, I'm not a boat.

@MarkHenderson James has consistently cherry picked obscure phrases, taken them out of context, twisted their meaning into something the original author didn't intend... I don't know where your line lies, but I consider it over the line into trolling. I wont speak for others, but he's been doing it enough that I owe him no benefit of the doubt.

I disagree, I do not believe the problem you think exists actually does. I believe that "vocal minority" which you speak of does not accurate represent SF, the site's mission, or those guiding its direction. I do not believe that vocal minority to includes any moderators. Further, I believe several of that vocal minority to be relatively low reputation users.

I don't think the majority should get balanced representation. Why do you? The majority do not provide value to the site. Should we not reward those who provide good Questions or Answers?

@JamesRyan It doesn't seem like the majority are providing Answers either. Stop trolling. Chopper did not say the High Rep users should control the direction of the site. He did not say that a contributor with 300+ Answers should not be represented in the site's mission. You are not in the group we're seeking out ouster; we've stated this before.
