Why was this suggested edit rejected?
And you think spelling so bad that even a native speaker is tripped up, and a non-native might be seriously confused, counts as trivial, @MadHatter?

I do what I can, @Iain, which isn't much. I'm not a sysadmin.

The advice I've always seen is that you should tidy as you go: don't go searching for problems, but do fix things as you come across them. And it's not a trivial edit when it's so poorly spelled that it may give an ESL speaker trouble understanding it.

Whence the [language] and [languages] tags?
There are probably few enough of them to edit manually. Most could also do with a bit of sprucing up while we're about it. I'll do a couple of the more egregious ones myself, but I don't yet have edit privileges on Server Fault, so I don't want to throw a pile into the review queues all at once.

"bumped to the homepage by Community" generate mostly noise
It is related. Things get bumped because they don't have votes.

Can anything be done about mods robo-rejecting edits that are objective improvements?
"I reject edits on questions that are old and that don't correct important factual errors." This is, as far as I know, contrary to policy.

Many old questions getting additional proftpd/vsftpd tags
See also: meta.superuser.com/a/10816/31641. Don't go looking for problems you cannot fix. (I've been guilty of this myself in the past.)

SO is absolutely massive, and no one person is going to materially affect the front page. SF is significantly smaller, and it may be best to edit in small short bursts to avoid flooding.
