It all depends on why you're compiling. If you want to add new feature or change default behaviour of apache or apache module, then SO is the place to ask the question.
@lain: that may be true about software from Redmond or other big software vendors, but when we look at the OSS side of things, the support infrastructure isn't so clear-cut and centralised. Questions about immature technology (like btrfs) should be encouraged.
