I think weighting by favourites is an excellent idea. Regardless of the point-in-time activity, users have clearly indicated they are interest in such rooms.

There's also the question of location. A system or service that be an excellent choice for someone in one location might be completely unusable, unobtainable or horrendously expensive, elsewhere. This is a big issue for global web sites such as SF.

Hmmm.... Registrars and off-site hosting (any kind) are not "server oriented products". They are services.

For me none of the chat rooms are useful, so obviously I don't think there should be permanent links to any of them.
