http://unix.stackexchange.com/ would have received it well, I think. I believe (though I forget) I may even have voted to migrate it there. Unfortunately, if I am not in the majority when I do it, it says I voted to close it outright. Alas.
Certainly, we are not all doomed. However, it's very important to keep the sites on topic, and in the case of this particular site, it is an uphill battle requiring lots of attention. It looks like this particular question was just not sysadmin-interesting according to myself and 4 other independent sysadmins. It's not always about clarity; it's more often about relevance.
I, as a high-rep user, have minimal moderation power on my own - anytime I want to do or reverse this particular action (closing), I need 4 people to agree with me. Believe me, it's minimal.
