How can we recruit and retain more talent?
very intriguing story. I've only frequented chat for a few months now and I do notice your presence dwindling. I'd like to know your thoughts on this to help curb what happened to you from happening to others.

+1, I think you are on to something. High rep users can see deleted questions, when others can't. What about a queue of pending questions that hold questions by users who either have not asked enough 'approved' questions on the site, or some other metric.

Are we becoming too judgmental about questions relating to "professionalism"?
@MichaelHampton I always thought it was really good fried chicken. Barring that, is there a meta question about that yet? I think it would make a good one there or either in chat.

which causes the signal to noise ratio to worsen, which causes more talent to quit, which causes the signal to noise ratio to worsen, which causes more talent to quit, which causes the signal to noise ratio to worsen, which causes more talent to quit, which causes the signal to noise ratio to worsen, which causes more talent to quit, which causes the signal to noise ratio to worsen, which causes the rest of any remaining talent to quit, which causes the signal to noise ratio to eventually kill the site and migrate all questions to.... super user.

If that results in a small community then so be it. It's about quality, not quantity.

I take that to mean we are "free and open to everyone" that are "system and network administrators needing expert answers related to managing computer systems in a professional capacity." Equal Opportunity Q&A, affirmative action, etc.?? In all seriousness very few will stick around 1) if they see a bunch of n00b `How do I set a static IP address PLEZ HALP ASAP!!!! or 2) No one can answer their SCOM/$Technology question in a reasonable time, which could be in part due to #1. I say we continue to downvote and get rid of bad quality questions even moreso than before.

Should we punish and also close questions with blindingly obvious answers?
@Iain and OP: Can't professional sysadmins still be green in some areas? I agree that basic research should still be done, but when making the jump from one technology to the next, questions some consider basic may be a necessity, especially if an admin was trying to do research by asking the question.
