Legitimate question about server setup, detailed my attempts, but told not professional way to do things
@RocWhite I would explain that inside your question, but at a certain point, why machineA can surf while machineB can't, but both can connect to C... I don't understand that point. Is it a proxy or else ? If you got a server that need direct internet access and your netadmin block you, it's a argument to have with them, ask them their router config in worst case if they are too lazy to do something

Hardware-Questions: Do they belong on Server Fault or on Super User?
@Runamaus Its not hardware related at all, as all business class router support icmp redirect. Home SOHO router no. The behaviour, on how something work can be easilly be find, like the link I left you on the question, but did you took the time to read it ? You mistook a important point, you didnt stated that because of that feature you have a problem X to solve. You actually ask for opinion on how the thing work to argument a verbal battle with your friend, while I could answer you anything, as you can’t validate the input I would tell as you have no gear to do the test.

Just seen your edit, for the prize idea it could be a simple signed card by Joel Splosky with a small prepaid visa in example (like 10$)

@MarkHenderson I'm not sure on the meaning of the expression used :P but none the less I wrote former, not 'current' for that purpose (to exclude myself) :-)
