@Hubert - we have agreed Crypto gets the questions about algorithms, maths, how crypto works and we get the implementation, what crypto you should use in your environment etc.

Should questions that are sysadmin-relevant but not sysadmin-specific be closed as Off Topic?
IT security has a very different scope than System administration, in fact it is a lot wider than IT Security - we also encompass a lot of other security aspects a security professional will be likely to deal with, including social engineering, forensics, physical security, CCTV etc.

An ethical obligation to not answer questions seeking to circumvent IT policies?
And even on IT Security - if there isn't a white hat angle we tend to close.

Are we getting out-of-hand with all of the sub-communities?
@voretaq7 - definitely try it by tags. I use 30-odd SE sites, so it wouldn't be useful to visit them all and trawl through, so I have a tag set which I look at a couple of times a day and follow the links to whichever site has the question. I also do a fair bit of 'ignored tags' on some sites just to help with this. It just cuts down the 'noise' to a better level.
