What's the etiquette for moving a question?
Extraordinarily good questions can be migrated[...]
: I stopped reading here as I needed to recover from an outburst of laughter.

Rejected edit and the importance of being nice
@TomHunter If there is an etiquette surrounding that, I wasn't aware of it - there is this on edit wars. Among other things, it states
*Always* respect the original author.
At least to me it seems like a good rule to follow. A corollary would be to edit foreign posts sensibly. And rarely.

Should we discourage the use of PPTP
In short, PPTP is more than safe enough for nearly all purposes
- you could state that for telnet
as well, nevertheless hardly anyone would advocate its use over SSH due to the simple reason that the risk is not the only part of the calculation, you have to factor in the impact as well. If you deliberately decided to do encryption because communications are supposed to be secret, you should not settle for a protocol which is known to be broken.

Over-use of Off-Topic Closure
@doug I have been one of the people who voted the first of those questions for migration. I have also written the only answer to this question so far (which was already there before I voted for migration) and do not think it has been unwelcoming in any way. The reason why the question attracted more migration votes quickly is the current review system - I think we need some more time to work out whether it is a good thing in its current condition.

Why was this XAMPP question closed and why are so many XAMPP questions being closed?
@martin's it is up to you to remove the emphasis on XAMPP. The whole "professional capacity" thing is about being at the same technical level. If a developer has badly screwed up his configuration, does not know how to configure DNS for his web hosting and has trouble determining if Windows Firewall is blocking traffic, then the gap is just too wide to allow for a single, concise answer. And if it is, the question does not belong to this Q&A site. Of course, if you are the aforementioned developer, you would not know. But this is where the community tells you by casting close votes.

open/close options affected by question locking?
@sysadmin1138 ah, this explains some of my confusion, thanks.

Somehow, I always thought that locking has just been done to prevent comments. So I was mistaken and it is just some sort of a mod-hammer?

What happened to the appearance of the vote count?
@JohnGardeniers I would not say it changed for the worse. It just ... changed. As this frequently happens to other Web (2.0) sites, I stopped questioning the rationales long ago. If Joel wanted a new look, there would be nothing to stop him anyway (well, except maybe a number of angry venture capital companies' managers calling his desk and asking him to think again), so all is left is hoping for the better. Also, I don't believe things like a design would get changed without major consultations - so it is probably much more than just "one dev".

What happened to the appearance of the vote count?
@JohnGardeniers Jin - who apparently is the one in charge for the template changes, stated Instead of a major release of changes at once, I prefer to do small incremental ones so it's less of an impact. I assume this is partly a bad case of The journey is its own reward - Taoism. But since something is moving, I would expect things to move on and eventually get the broken features fixed.

Is ServerFault becoming more popular?
@Iain just as for MadHatter blobs only, even after login. Any non-admin seeing more than this?

@Iain is this admin-only? What I get to see is just an abundance of blobs presumably representing all SE sites.
