We need a custom close reason for web hosting control panels
I'd be wary of using the phrase "our ability to support" because it makes us sound like we officially support other things, which we don't. If there's a way to rephrase it to remove that implication...

Abrupt change in moderation staff?
@MadHatter For this scenario, I disagree. Shog9 basically sits at the top of the pyramid of community members in terms of responsibility, and it's his responsibility to limit the perceived damage. When you think someone is running around smashing all the windows without permission, you don't politely ask them to stop and hope that they will. You take away their hammer until you can get the full story.

What should the community take away from panel-gate?
My biggest takeaway is that you can't just go and whack the suffix "-gate" on the end of a noun. THATS NOT HOW IT WORKS PEOPLE.

, and myself for that matter, to be dealt with quietly.

@Iain Stack Exchange have their protocols that need to be followed, and I don't think that the action of removing someones powers whilst their actions are being investigated is too strong. After all, if you're going to fire someone, you don't tell them before hand. You take away their access card in case they go and fuck shit up. That's just common sense. The only reason this drama came out was because Hopeless requested that it be aired. The only reason that happened was because someone noticed that mod diamonds were missing. I'm sure that Shog and everyone at SE would have preferred it

@ShaneMadden it's small enough that I've edited it into the question. Also there were delete votes on it, but they seem to be gone...

The title of the question stated that the lights are "always" on. Unfortunately this was not repeated in the body of the question, even after my edit. I can see your point regarding the amount of effort put into the question.

@Iain I want to keep this post unbiased in that regards. That way it can still be relevant in the future. Keeping it simple.

@Magellan You could diagnose 90% of the questions on this site as "contact the vendor", but for whatever reason people choose not to. And the answer is less "contact your vendor" as "your device has failed" and the next step is to contact the vendor.

@Iain I made a conscious decision not to post my opinion on the close reason, because I do not believe it should have been closed. I was going to throw an edit on it, but when I first saw it I was just heading out of the office, and when I wrote this post I was about to make dinner, so didn't have the time to edit it into a more well formatted question.
