The Usenet was highly democratic - and a loud mob of egocentric people craving for recognition, acting angry and pecking on newcomers and strangers is what you inherently get with a democracy - you can see it on TV every freaking day. Aside from that it was an open platform which served its purpose of facilitating discussions rather well. Stackexchange "meta" and "area51" are nothing but implementations of the same regulatory concepts you have seen in alt.admin groups. | |
